SHONA D’AFRIQUE X – Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the outdoor exhibition and sale

Summer time rendez-vous of culture and nature in Beaconsfield
From July 12 to the 20, 2014 – Centennial Park

The annual exhibition and sale SHONA D’AFRIQUE X is back this summer for the last run, celebrating its 10th anniversary at Centennial Park (288 Beaconsfield Blvd.) in Beaconsfield. Promoted by Fran Fearnley, curator and director of ZimArt, in collaboration with the City of Beaconsfield Cultural Services, the outdoor exhibition will display an impressive collection of more than 150 hand-carved stone sculptures created by some forty artists from Zimbabwe. The exhibition is free and runs daily from Saturday July 12 to Sunday July 20, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE Vengai Chiwawa carving on site
This year’s artist-in-residence invited by ZimArt, VENGAI CHIWAWA, originally from the Guruve region in Zimbabwe, now lives in Chitungwiza where he sculpts from his home studio. Chiwawa has earned an international reputation and his work has been exhibited widely. This will be his first opportunity to represent himself in North America. Vengai’s sculptures will be featured prominently. He will be on site throughout the exhibition sculpting and talking with visitors about his work and his creative process.

SILENT AUCTION and money raised for giving back to the children of Zimbabwe
Selected works will be auctioned to raise funds to complete the construction of Maori’s Primary School located in Mashonaland Central, in rural Zimbabwe. Bids will be accepted throughout the exhibition, closing on Sunday, July 20 at 3 p.m.
